  • Beschreibung: Promoting the green transformation of agricultural development in China is an important measure to accelerate the structural reform of agricultural supply side and realize rural revitalization. In this context, this paper regards the construction of agricultural green development demonstration zone (AGDDZ) as a quasi-natural experiment, and explores the effect of policy implementation on county economic growth with difference-in-difference method, based on a panel dataset of 1700 counties in China over 2013-2020. The results show that, the construction of AGDDZ has a significantly positive effect on county economic growth, and the construction effect of AGDDZ is stable within study period. Further heterogeneity analysis shows that, in the eastern region of China, or the counties with higher economic development level, or smaller population size, the construction of AGDDZ can produce bigger impact on county economic growth. Moreover, the construction of AGDDZ promotes county economic growth mainly through the mechanism of narrowing urban-rural income gap, but the effect of industrial structure upgrading is hardly released. These findings indicate that Chinese government should continue to promote the construction of AGDDZ, and take targeted measures given the regional development discrepancy. The government should also pay attention to the dynamic effects of policy implementation, and push the construction process steadily. The research conclusions and policy recommendations provide useful theoretical support for construction of AGDDZ, so as to achieve green transformation and rural economy growth
