  • Beschreibung: We use household-level panel data from six Indian states and combine difference-in-differences methodology with multivalued treatment effects to estimate the causal effect of either complete or incomplete transition to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from biomass on time spent on cooking and cooking experiences. We find that households that completely (incompletely) transition to LPG from biomass spend 10 (6) percent less time on cooking per day compared to households that continued relying completely on biomass. We also show that households that switched from LPG to either biomass or mixed fuels spend considerably more time in cooking per day compared to households that continued using LPG. We also find that the households that make a clean switch to LPG from solid fuels are less likely to report problems with cooking arrangements---such as excessive smoke, time-consuming, and cooking being difficult---compared to households that continued to use solid fuels
