In the thesis at hand, we investigate two important classes of integrable systems, namely Hitchin systems and Calabi-Yau integrable systems. The former is Lie-theoretic in nature and requires, amongst others, a complex semisimple Lie group for its construction. The main input for the latter comes from complex-(algebraic) geometry, more precisely families of (non-)compact Calabi-Yau threefolds. Despite their different origins, Diaconescu, Donagi and Pantev showed in 2007 that a Hitchin system, which is constructed from a complex semisimple Lie group whose Dynkin diagram is simply-laced (ADE), is isomorphic to a non-compact Calabi-Yau integrable system over a good locus in the Hitchin base. We extend their result to the cases where the Dynkin diagrams are non-simply-laced (BCFG) by using graph automorphisms of simply-laced Dynkin diagrams. This requires a detailed analysis of some aspects of singularities of type BCFG as introduced by Slodowy. To obtain the global result over a good locus in the Hitchin base we employ Morihiko Saito’s theory of (mixed) Hodge modules. Finally, we pursue another natural approach to the BCFG-cases called monodromy along the fibers which produces further families of non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds. We give evidence that these Calabi-Yau threefolds give rise to integrable systems that are not Hitchin systems.
