Vom 6. bis 9. Juni 2024 wählen die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Europäischen Union zum zehnten Mal das Europäische Parlament. Von den insgesamt 720 Sitzen in der nächsten Wahlperiode entfallen 96 Sitze auf Deutschland, sie werden ausschließlich im Wahlverfahren der Verhältniswahl besetzt. Als Wahltermin in Deutschland hat die Bundesregierung Sonntag, den 9. Juni 2024 bestimmt. Die Zahl der Wahlberechtig- ten hat sich gegenüber der letzten Europawahl mitunter aufgrund der Änderung des Europawahlgesetzes erhöht: Zum ersten Mal können bei Europawahlen auch 16- und 17-Jährige teilnehmen. Der Beitrag beschreibt die umfangreichen Vorbereitungen zur Europawahl. Schwerpunkte liegen auf dem Verfahren zur Zulassung von Wahlvorschlägen sowie den Änderungen der Rechtsgrundlagen und deren Auswirkungen auf die Ausübung des Wahlrechts. ; From 6 to 9 June 2024, the citizens of the European Union will elect the members of the 10th European Parliament. Germany will account for 96 of the total 720 seats in the next electoral term; these 96 seats will be filled by candidates elected exclusively on the basis of proportional representation. The Federal Government has set Sunday, 9 June 2024 as the election date in Germany. The number of eligible voters has in- creased compared with the last European elections partly due to the amendment to the European Elections Act. For the first time, 16 and 17-year-olds will also be able to vote in European elections. This article describes the extensive preparations for the European elections. The main focus is on the procedure for the admission of nominations, the changes to the legal basis and the resulting consequences for the exercising of the right to vote.
