  • Beschreibung: Source: https://erdc-library.erdc.dren.mil/jspui/ ; As a result of increased public awareness and State and Federal legislation, water resources projects are being operated with a greater priority on water quality considerations. The use of a reservoir outlet works incorporating multilevel selective withdrawal intakes is a primary method for the control of reservoir in situ and release quality. Presented herein is a systematic numerical procedure whereby, for a given set of hydrothermal conditions, an optimum selective withdrawal intake configuration may be designed. The procedure is accomplished through the coupling of a reservoir thermal simulation model and a mathematical optimization model. The report details the formulation of the design problem, input to the numerical procedure, constrains considered by the optimization procedure, and general use of the procedure. A case study illustrating the utility of the procedure for two optimization routines and the selection of one for the completed procedure are presented in detail.
