<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>A group of European recognized dermatologists – the European Working Group on the Diagnosis of Chronic Urticaria – met on 12 March 1999 to discuss best practice for assessing and diagnosing patients with chronic urticaria. These are their recommendations. The recommendations will be valuable for the majority of cases, but are not exhaustive and may not include every possible precipitating factor.</jats:p>
