<jats:p>A series solution method is developed that is a generalization of the method used by Pekeris for helium-atom calculations. It is equivalent to the linear variation method but requires few, if any, matrix component integrals to be evaluated. The method is illustrated by an application to the s states of the hydrogen atom.</jats:p>
