Beschreibung:
The optical gains observed in molecular iodine lasers are the result of competition between stimulated emission and absorption losses from the excited B electronic state. The ratio of the cross sections for stimulated emission and absorption is ∼2.5 (v″ = odd) and ∼1.0 (v″ = even) for v′ = 43→v″ = 7–15. The correct consideration of this competition removes the apparent anomaly of nonobservable laser emission to v″ = even in this spectral region.
