<jats:p>We propose to study a systematic eikonal expansion within non-relativistic potential scattering in which the lowest order term is equivalent to the Glauber approximation. The range of validity of this approximation is discussed in terms of the general structure of the higher order correction terms of the expansion scheme.</jats:p>
