<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>We discuss the difficulties in modelling the computer assisted design optimization (C. A. D.) corresponding to a sensible engineering criteria, while making use of the available mathematical theories. In particular, what kind of outside loads should be assumed, and what constitutive equations and material theories would fit the estahlished numerical techniques now commonly adopted in C. A. D. software? While no definite answers are given, some numerical techniques are proposed for dealing with a very difficult practical problem.</jats:p>
