<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The function of a joint is closely connected to the structure and function of the capillaries in the synovial membrane of the joint capsule. Direct microscopic observation in vivo of the vascular bed of the synovial membrane in the rabbit's knee joint appears to be a suitable technic for analysis of the microcirculation of this membrane. Shunt and sphincter mechanisms are clearly recognizable by this method.</jats:p>
