<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The cover image depicts human intestinal microvascular endothelial cells stained for ICAM‐1 after <jats:italic>in vitro</jats:italic> stimulation with the pro‐inflammatory cytokine TNF‐α. The image was taken from a recently‐published article by Scaldaferri <jats:italic>et al.</jats:italic> (<jats:italic>Eur. J. Immunol</jats:italic>. 2009. <jats:bold>39:</jats:bold> 290–300), in which the authors demonstrate that stimulation with TNF‐α up‐regulates ICAM‐1 expression in human intestinal microvascular endothelial cells leading to increased recruitment of lymphocytes in the gut, a key pathogenic event in inflammatory bowel disease.</jats:p>
