<jats:p><jats:bold>On the Mechanism of the Photoreduction of Water with Ruthenium‐trisbipyrazil as Sensitizer</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>Oxidative and reductive primary steps can be differentiated in using Ru(bipy)<jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="graphic/tex2gif-stack-1.gif" xlink:title="urn:x-wiley:0018019X:media:HLCA19830660833:tex2gif-stack-1" /> and Ru(bipz)<jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="graphic/tex2gif-stack-2.gif" xlink:title="urn:x-wiley:0018019X:media:HLCA19830660833:tex2gif-stack-2" />, respectively, as sensitizers in a photochemically induced, Pt‐catalyzed sacrificial water reduction. Experimental evidence for the reductive primary step and kinetic data are given for the electron transfer to methylviologen as relay compound.</jats:p>
