<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The preparation of the trihydrochloride form of 2‐[3‐(aminomethyl)‐5‐methyl‐1,2,4‐triazol‐4‐yl]‐3‐(2‐chlorobenzoyl) thieno[2,3‐<jats:italic>c</jats:italic>]‐4,5,6,7‐tetrahydropyridine (<jats:bold>2</jats:bold>) the ring opened derivative of a 1,2,4‐triazolo‐thieno‐1,4‐diazepine is described. Its structural properties are given, and are compared with those of the corresponding closed form 4<jats:italic>H</jats:italic>‐6‐(2‐chlorophenyl)‐1‐methyl‐7,8,9,10‐tetrahydropyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2‐<jats:italic>f</jats:italic>]‐[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3‐<jats:italic>a</jats:italic>][1,4]diazepine (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>).</jats:p>
