<jats:p><jats:bold>On the Self‐Decomposition of 2‐Chloro‐4‐methoxy‐1‐naphthol</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>On standing, 2‐chloro‐4‐methoxy‐1‐naphthol (<jats:bold>1a</jats:bold>) rapidly decomposes under formation of the dinaphthofuranol <jats:bold>10a</jats:bold>. The reaction is interpreted as a dehalogenation of <jats:bold>1a</jats:bold> yielding <jats:bold>6</jats:bold>, oxidation of the latter and acid‐catalyzed cyclisation of the intermediate <jats:bold>9</jats:bold>.</jats:p>
