<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The products of the reaction of 2‐cyano‐2‐propyl radicals with 1,4‐benzoquinone in toluene solution have been investigated by <jats:sup>1</jats:sup>H NMR spectroscopy and mass spectroscopy. In agreement with the findings of Bickel and Waters the main reaction products are the hydroquinone monoether <jats:bold>1</jats:bold> and the hydroquinone diether <jats:bold>2</jats:bold>. In addition two ringsubstituted products, <jats:bold>5</jats:bold> and <jats:bold>6</jats:bold>, have been obtained. The structures <jats:bold>3</jats:bold> and <jats:bold>4</jats:bold>, which have been proposed for the main products by Yassin and Rizk, are shown to be in error.</jats:p>
