<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The uses of superposition in linear viscoelasticity and steady‐state shearing flow are treated from the point of view of phenomenological theory. Special attention is paid to exact and approximate relations concerning superposition of various rheological properties. Shift factors are related to the viscoelastic constants.</jats:p>
