  • Beschreibung:
Abstract
The theory of the stability of the solid‐liquid interface during crystal growth given by the author previously is extended to include thermal effects, to first order in the amplitude of the initial disturbance. For dilute solutions the stability conditions are the same as those derived by Mullins and Sekerka using a simpler approach with time independent diffusion equations. The original criterion of Tiller et al. for the occurrence of constitutional supercooling does not predict instability correctly for some special non‐ideal solutions. The response of the interface to oscillatory variations of temperature is also calculated.
