Abstract In mice predisposed to lung cancer, dysregulation of the lung's bacteria creates a proinflammatory environment that promotes tumor growth. Treating the animals with antibiotics or keeping them in bacteria-free conditions results in fewer and smaller tumors, implicating the local microbiota in the development of lung cancer.
