  • Beschreibung:
The use of the word “scugnizzo”, derived from local and popular usage in Naples and surroundings, where it was first noticed by the poet and journalist Ferdinando Russo, rapidly spread into the standard Italian language between the end of the XVIII and the beginning of the XIX century thanks mainly to its frequent appearance in the fields of music, theater and literature. Thus the history of “scugnizzo” entails an exemplary case-study of contact between street cultural anthropology and intellectual lexicon. A decisive moment in the fortune of the term can be seen in the meeting of Raffaele Viviani and the Futurists. And of the Futurist Francesco Cangiullo here is examined the poetic composition Scugnizzi of 1915.
