  • Beschreibung: Failure of composite laminates reinforced with continuous fibres is not fully understood. The complexity of failure behaviors for these materials depends mainly on the large number of possible failure modes. In this work, some failure criteria that incorporate or predict failure modes will first be discussed. Then a formulation taking into account failure modes will be presented. It is based on the dual kriging approach described previously [3,4,5], but includes a new feature: the kriging of derivatives. The introduction of derivatives in kriging allows control of the local shape of the failure envelope as a function of the main failure modes. The method is applied to two types of composite materials: a unidirectional composite and a graphite-epoxy laminate. The effect of failure modes on the shape of the failure envelope is explained, and the results obtained by this approach are compared to those of other criteria. The method provides a general tool to model the failure envelope of composite materials. However, in order to use its full potential, a more fundamental experimental investigation must be performed on the failure phenomena of composite laminates.
