  • Beschreibung:
The author investigates machinima’s incapacity to achieve full emancipation from the video game sphere to become a mature, autonomous, and independent form of expression; one possible explanation behind this conundrum is that the machinima community generally perceives itself as consisting of filmmakers — as in live action filmmaking — rather than animators. Thus, the stylistic, narrative and production methods used in both traditional and computer-generated animated stories are ignored or overlooked. For machinima to become more diverse, both visually and narratively, its production tools have to untie themselves from the computer games that they originated from, while embracing the unique approach and ease of use of real-time animation.
