<jats:p> Through the experiences of St. Luke, the physician, and his likely relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the virtues of Mary are described, in particular with reference to her seven sorrows. These are related to the ministry of healing of physicians for their patients. A call is given for physicians to imitate the virtues of Mary and, like St. Luke, to be transformed from one who cares only for the body to one who cares for the body and the soul. </jats:p>
