  • Beschreibung: AbstractSymptoms of frost injury to young Norway spruce occurred in most of south‐eastern Norway at the beginning of March 1977. Needles and bark of the previous year's and, to a lesser degree, of the two‐year‐old shoots, were affected. The injury was most severe in plantations, especially of southern provenances on high quality sites. There was little or no effect of altitude, terrain or degree of exposure. The injury is presumed to have been initiated by unfavourable weather in 1976 (an extremely dry summer followed by a wet and cold autumn) and triggered by large daily temperature fluctuations towards the end of February when the tissues were lethally injured.
