  • Beschreibung: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Forty‐one insect species and morphospecies belonging to eight trophic guilds were reared from the fruit of cultivated and wild <jats:italic>Syzygium paniculatum</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Szygium australe</jats:italic> (Myrtaceae) trees in Sydney and on the Central Coast of NSW. Species recovered from <jats:italic>S. australe</jats:italic> were primarily a subset of those recovered from <jats:italic>S. paniculatum</jats:italic>. Of the most commonly sampled species four were seed predators: <jats:italic>Sigastus</jats:italic> msp.1 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), <jats:italic>Anselmella miltoni</jats:italic> (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), <jats:italic>Megastigmus</jats:italic> sp. (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) and <jats:italic>Coscinoptycha improbana</jats:italic> (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae). <jats:italic>Megastigmus</jats:italic> also appears to be an inquiline associated with <jats:italic>A. miltoni. Coscinoptycha improbana</jats:italic> is primarily a frugivore. The frugivore <jats:italic>Bactrocera jarvisi</jats:italic> (Diptera: Tephritidae) and the saprophage <jats:italic>Ectopsocus</jats:italic> msp.1 (Psocoptera: Ectopsocidae) were also relatively abundant in samples. The rearing of <jats:italic>C. improbana</jats:italic>, <jats:italic>A. miltoni</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>B. jarvisi</jats:italic> as well as the less commonly sampled <jats:italic>Acroceuthes metaxanthana</jats:italic> (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae, Tortricinae), three morphospecies of <jats:italic>Holocola</jats:italic> (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) and <jats:italic>Isotenes miserana</jats:italic> (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) from <jats:italic>S. paniculatum</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>S. australe</jats:italic> constitute new host records for these insects.</jats:p>
