<jats:title>ABSTRACT </jats:title><jats:p>This paper explores what J. J. Long calls the ‘problems of postmemory’ in Monika Maron's novel <jats:italic>Pawels Briefe</jats:italic> (1999) and offers a more critical reading of the text. Unlike many other scholarly articles on <jats:italic>Pawels Briefe</jats:italic>, this paper does not just read Maron's novel as a paradigmatic example of contemporary ‘Generationenromane’: rather, it deconstructs Maron's postmemorial undertaking and exposes it as highly problematic.</jats:p><jats:p>Dieses Paper schließt an J. J. Longs Befund an, der als erster die ‘problems with postmemory’ in Monika Marons Roman <jats:italic>Pawels Briefe</jats:italic> (1999) konstatierte. Es bietet eine kritische und noch detailliertere Lektüre des Textes. Anders als die meisten existierenden Artikel zu Marons Roman liest diese Arbeit <jats:italic>Pawels Briefe</jats:italic> nicht nur als paradigmatisches Beispiel für zeitgenössische ‘Generationenromane’: vielmehr wird hier Marons postmemoriales Projekt dekonstruiert und als problematisch lesbar gemacht.</jats:p>
