<jats:p>Optical scanning holography is a real-time holographic recording technique in which holographic information about a three-dimensional (3D) object is acquired using a single two-dimensional active optical scan. Applications of the technique include optical scanning microscopy, pattern recognition, 3D holographic display, and optical remote sensing. This paper introduces the basics of optical scanning holography.</jats:p>
