Mass attachments may significantly alter the natural frequencies and response characteristics of rectangular honeycomb sandwich plates. Based on the well-known analyses of Mindlin [J. Appl. Mech. 18, 31–38 (1951)] and Reissner [NACA Tech. Note TN 1832 (1949)], a vibration theory is developed for sandwich plates. The effect of mass attachments on natural frequencies and associated modal shapes is obtained. A linear, elastic, small-deflection theory with core shear effects is presented. Computer results and experimental results are reported.
