  • Beschreibung: The longitudinal wave velocity of water-saturated sand is dependent on the porosity. The data which show the relationship between the velocity and the porosity are dispersed [E. L. Hamilton and R. T. Bachman, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 72, 1891–1904 (1982)]. It seems that this dispersion is due to the grain size, the standard deviation of the grain size, and the grain shape. In this study, to investigate the dispersion, the longitudinal wave velocities, the porosities, and the grain sizes of many kinds of water-saturated beach sands are measured. The relationships between the velocity, the porosity, and the grain size are obtained. From these results, it is seen that the velocity of the water-saturated beach sand with the same porosity varies with the grain size. That is, the velocity of the water-saturated beach sand with the same porosity increases, as the grain size increases. It is considered that the frame bulk modulus of the water-saturated beach sand with the same porosity varies with the grain size.
