Beschreibung:
The essays written in memory of Hans Turley extend his intellectual legacy by considering themes partly inspired by his ground-breaking Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash: Piracy, Sexuality, and Masculine Identity (New York, 1999), including transformations in the sex/gender system, the emergence of heteronormativity, the dynamics of same-sex desire, and queer friendship and sociability. Taken together the essays suggest that many pockets of queerness amidst and within eighteenth-century British heteronormative structures beckon for further investigation.
