It is also interesting that the rate for California female military recruits matches that of childbearing women.</jats:p>
<jats:p>The lower HIV seroprevalence rates in California women compared with East Coast states raises important questions about differing patterns of HIV transmission to women in the two areas. Regional stratification of the statewide rates, especially for inner-city neighborhoods, should provide relevant data for understanding these patterns.</jats:p>
