  • Beschreibung: <jats:p>In a recently published paper <jats:sup>9</jats:sup> a system-theory for the optokinetic reactions of the beetle Chlorophanus viridis was reported. The theory allows quantitative predictions of reactions to known stimulations. The following paper deals with predictions of optokinetic responses to periodic light patterns. The calculated response curves are accordant with experiments of HASSENSTEIN. The main results are: 1. Optokinetic responses to moving periodic patterns can be considered as the superposition of partial responses to moving Fourier- components of which the patterns are composed. 2. The responses depend on the squared amplitudes of these Fourier - components and not on the standard deviation of light signals in the pattern. 3. The phase relations of Fourier- components - contained in the pattern - have no influence on the optokinetic reactions; therefore the responses are invariant to phase shifts of pattern components. 4. Application of the theory to former experiments by HASSENSTEIN reveal, that the effective visual angles of ommatidia are in the range of 1.2 degree.</jats:p>
