<jats:p> The tetrafluoroborato complexes (OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>MFBF<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> (M = Mn, Re) which are obtained by methyl abstraction from (OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>MCH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> using Ph<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>CBF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> react with ethylene or propene at room temperature and 1 bar to give [(OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>M(alkene)]<jats:sup>+</jats:sup> BF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>-. By nucleophilic addition of the carbonylmetalates [M(CO)s] -(M = Mn, Re) to the coordinated alkene in these cationic complexes [(OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>M(alkene)]<jats:sup>+</jats:sup> the alkene bridged complexes (OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>MCH<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>CH(R)M(CO)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> (M = Mn, Re; R = H, Me) are formed. Also the mixed-metal complex (OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>MnCH<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>CH<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>Re(CO)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> has been isolated. According to an X-ray structure at low temperature (OC)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>ReCH<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>CH<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>Re(CO)<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> can be considered as a dimetal substituted ethane with a carbon-carbon distance of 152 pm.</jats:p>
