<jats:p>Single crystals of the hydrous cadmium borate Cd<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>B<jats:sub>22</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>39</jats:sub>·H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O were obtained through a high-pressure/high-temperature experiment at 4.7 GPa and 1000 °C using a Walker-type multianvil apparatus. CdO and partially hydrolyzed B<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> were used as starting materials. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study has revealed that the structure of Cd<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>B<jats:sub>22</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>39</jats:sub>·H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O is similar to that of the type <jats:italic>M</jats:italic>
<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>B<jats:sub>22</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>39</jats:sub>·H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O (<jats:italic>M</jats:italic>=Fe, Co). Layers of corner-sharing BO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> groups are interconnected by BO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> groups to form channels containing the metal cations, which are six- and eight-fold coordinated by oxygen atoms. The compound crystallizes in the space group <jats:italic>Pnma</jats:italic> (no. 62) [<jats:italic>R</jats:italic>1=0.0379, <jats:italic>wR</jats:italic>2=0.0552 (all data)] with the unit cell dimensions <jats:italic>a</jats:italic>=1837.79(5), <jats:italic>b</jats:italic>=777.92(2), <jats:italic>c</jats:italic>=819.08(3) pm, and <jats:italic>V</jats:italic>=1171.00(6) Å<jats:sup>3</jats:sup>. The IR and Raman spectra reflect the structural characteristics of Cd<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>B<jats:sub>22</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>39</jats:sub>·H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O.</jats:p>
