  • Beschreibung: A crown-gall suspension of Matricaria chamomilla L. was cultivated in the presence of an adsorbent (activated charcoal, AC). The culture produces besides other secondary products coniferyl aldehyde which is excreted by the cells and distributed between cells, medium, and the AC according to equilibrium distributions with more than 95% of the substance adsorbed to the AC. This deprivation of coniferyl aldehyde from the medium enables the cells to increase the production of this substance up to 60-fold. The system Matricaria/coniferyl aldehyde serves as a model for the improvement of the production of secondary products by means of plant cell suspensions.
