<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>In this contribution, the travel diaries and notebooks in which Adelbert von Chamisso documented his three-year journey round the world are examined together as a stand-alone travel book. Throughout his travels, Chamisso developed and modified the method and organization of his writing process. The combination of aestheticizing depictions of nature and documentary natural research is preserved in the assemblage of his travel writing but is operationalized through various text forms and ways of recording.</jats:p>
