<jats:p>Carbon storage in forests is a valuable service, which can be marketed through climate protection projects. In Switzerland, voluntary projects are in the fore, such as the establishment of forest reserves and the increase of wood stocks in managed forests. Up to now only few such sink projects have been realized, mainly due to low motivation, lacking methodological know-how and poor marketing activities. However, first market transactions show that there is quite a demand for Swiss certificates. In the end, the decision to develop such a product depends on the specific silvicultural and economic situation and is up to the management of each single forest enterprise.</jats:p>
