<jats:p>The history of the sanctuary of the « Institution ofthe Poseidoniasts of Berytos » on Delos continues to be the subject of discussion, notably concerning the number and succession of the phases, as well as the function of the four cellae. The author, as the result of a reexamination of the building, proposes a new reading of the history of the construction. Thus, at the time of the enlargement of the sanctuary in the second phase, none of the rooms of the first phase, namely two cellae for the theoi patroi of the association and an ancillary room, remained unchanged. Three rooms in the new sanctuary housed the cult of Roma and the theoi patroi, the fourth serving as an ancillary room (« sacristy »). The four rooms underwent a second transformation: renewal of the paving, statue bases and cult images. It is now certain that the statue of Roma and its base were not erected in the original cella, but only in the third phase. The author also proposes a new reconstruction of the Roma base. Contrary to present opinion, it is not possible to prove either the destruction of the base and statue of Roma (in 88 BC by the anti-Roman troops of Mithridates), or their repair.</jats:p>
