  • Beschreibung: Abstract. - The Grand Bornand disaster has had a great impact on public opinion because of its 23 victims. In the face of its sheer scale, it was soon thought to be an exceptional and unpredictable event. However a precise study of the major factors of the disaster reveals a different type of reality : often said to be isolated the storm is actually due to an organized phenomenon in which elements (different from local conditions) played an important part. Moreover the particularities of the site show that the Borne's overflowing cannot be regarded as an exceptional event.
