ABSTRACT- Two indigenous musical instruments — the kena and the pututu — appear regularly in the literature belonging to the countries of the Andes' region. What significance do they have in fiction ? Considering several examples we try to demonstrate that both objects are employed to represent the two opposite poles of the « indian's » personality.
