  • Beschreibung: François-Georges Pariset : The graphic arts in France c. 1778. Around 1778 artistic activity in France was noteworthy for the role of Paris, the Salons, art criticism, and showed both rapid transformation and the persistence of' moderate neo-classicism. Particularly to be noted are technical innovations in engravings, a concern for the people, outline drawing used by David, a new style in portraiture (Chardin). Romantic tendencies appear in the ruins te be seen in landscapes, which accompanied a general return to French history, also seen in the troubadour fashion. The ideal of the Enlightenment is best expressed by David, whose art became more and more philosophical.
