  • Beschreibung: Knapped obsidian currently represents the first documented evidence for exchanges between Southern Arabia and Eastern Africa across the Red Sea, dating back to the Neolithic, at least 8.000 years ago. Although obsidian sources are known in Yemen, particularly in the Isbîl and al-Lîsî mountains, the results of a discriminant analysis, bearing on 122 samples from 14 archaeological sites, analyzed for trace elements using the fluorescence method XRF, point to an African origin for the obsidian artefacts found at archaeological sites in Southern Arabia (Yemen and Dhofar) from the Neolithic onwards.
