  • Beschreibung: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>Melaphis rhois</jats:italic>Fitch (Hemiptera: Aphididae) has been considered the only North American representative of the aphid subtribe Melaphidina. Molecular and morphometric analysis indicates that there are at least three sympatric cryptic melaphidine species in North America.<jats:italic>Melaphis asafitchi</jats:italic><jats:bold>new species</jats:bold>is described and<jats:italic>M. rhois</jats:italic>is redefined and a neotype designated. The name<jats:italic>Melaphis minuta</jats:italic>Baker cannot be assigned to either of these species. Details of the life cycles of<jats:italic>Melaphis</jats:italic>Walsh species, including the existence of ovoviviparity in sexual females, is discussed.</jats:p>
