  • Beschreibung: The author graduated from the Department of Architecture , Middle East Technical University, in 1986. She has an MA from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, University of Hacettepe, Ankara, Turkey, and a Ph.D from the Department of Urban and Environmental Sciences, University of Ankara. She is currently an Instructor in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, University of Hacettepe. She has presented papers on environmental problems and vernacular architecture at numerous national and international congresses, and has published papers related to these subjects in various scholarly journals. She is a member of the World Society for Ekistics. The text that follows is a slightly edited and revised version of a paper presented at the international symposion on Globalization and Local Identity, organized jointly by the World Society for Ekistics and the University of Shiga Prefecture in Hikone, Japan, 19-24 September, 2005.
