The scholarly focus on Hamilton as an actress, playwright, novelist, and author of suffrage propaganda has obscured the significance of periodical publication in shaping her self-conception as a writer and a feminist. Hamilton honed her voice in the suffrage periodical press and the mainstream dailies, as well as the feminist journal Time and Tide, for which she served as a codirector in the 1920s. Hamilton's journalism offers a rich resource for scholars of the feminist public sphere in the early twentieth century.
