<p>The growth of global ecological demand is created both by the population explosion in poor nations, and by the standard-of-living explosion in rich ones. This demand must be met by a supply of new resources, technology, social institutions, and changes in human value systems, if we want to avoid violent solutions. It is uncertain if this complicated equation can be solved in the future. This uncertainty should lead to a "mutual growth moratorium" in both population and material living standards.</p>
