<p>The first part of the paper explores how the Bobover Hasidim drew upon the various levels of interpretation embedded in the story of Purim and its mode of celebration to develop their own theology, customs, and events for Purim. The second part of the paper is an ethnography of one particular key event in the Bobover Purim, the trink-siyde ("drinking banquet"), as a ritual of revitalization and continuation. The Bobover Purim is presented not only as a Jewish holiday-turned-Carnival, but as a Carnival-like celebration transformed by the Bobover into a key event in their liturgical calendar.</p>
