  • Beschreibung: In Franz Schreker's commentaries on his operas, but even more so in the scores themselves, an orientation toward Ferruccio Busoni's music aesthetics becomes apparent. This is primarily exhibited in the idea of music's role in opera being strategically legitimized by its inclusion in the story line, which Schreker takes a step further by thematizing his music as a subject unto itself. Thus, Schreker "stages" music as a transcendent and boundless medium in both his operatic plots and scores. He also realizes other ideas of Busoni, including the incorporation of compositional detail that exhibits parallels to Busoni's own works.
