  • Beschreibung: <p>Pilot testing and cost analyses of alternative sludge thickening processes were performed by the Madison, Wis., Metropolitan Sewerage District and <tex-math>${\rm CH}_{2}{\rm M}$</tex-math> Hill in 1978 as part of the district's predesign studies. Test results and cost analysis are summarized, and some of the variables and their effects on system costs are discussed. Costs of thickening are a major component of overall system costs for the reuse program. There are definite trade-offs to be made between thickening and transport/reuse costs. In particular, the cost of providing new thickening capabilities is not necessarily less than the savings that would result in transport/reuse costs. Design decisions at Madison were made after evaluating these cost trade-offs and other factors unique to the constraints and variables of the reuse program.</p>
