  • Beschreibung: Despite its title, this essay is an economics paper, not a theology or religion paper. It is part of the interdisciplinary field of economic ethics, which necessarily connects to other areas and disciplines, such as philosophy, politics, or religious doctrines. The essay points out that, regardless of the ideological point of view and method of analysis, the various doctrines of economic thought share an immanentist vision of the world and of life, which has resulted in economics, when it addresses the issue of welfare, being limited to material and subjective welfare. The essay then limits itself to exposing - not debating - Joseph Ratzinger’s proposal of a "rationality open to transcendence" and closes by addressing some advances and limitations in applying this proposal to economics.
